“Industrial Man” Original Painting for Sale by Mr Pilgrim
Completed in June 2014 on canvas “Industrial Man” is an original painting for sale by urban artist Mr Pilgrim.
I have tried to include some decent images to show the process I went through creating this piece with the majority of the time being spent on adding the main graphic detail. Like most of my paintings I had a very rough idea in my head of what I wanted to achieve without putting pen to paper and it was only as I worked on it that the pieces fell into place.
The main inspiration behind “Industrial Man” is the Russian propaganda posters of the early half of the 20th century with the use of a strong male character and the classic iconic Russian hammer. I used gears perhaps instead of the sickle but more in reference to the gears of man, whether they be industrial, war or the machinations of our own psyche. His eyes are also noticeably blank and this was a conscience decision while creating the painting as I felt the dehumanizing nature of the industrial revolution and now the electronic one has in many ways turned us into blank faced, zombified slaves to technology.
Overall size is 40 x 40 cm approx on stretched canvas.
