Frome Community Mural

A spectacular and colorful new mural has appeared in the heart of Frome town centre, transforming the public space next to Ellenbray Toys & Stationery shop. The vibrant artwork is the result of a hands-on graffiti and street art workshop led by professional muralist Tom Sturgess, giving local teenagers a creative voice and a direct hand in shaping their town’s visual culture.

Channeling Youth Creativity Positively

The youth workshop marks the kickoff of an ambitious, year-long community art programme spearheaded by Frome Town Council. Being delivered in close partnership with The School of Graff, the initiative seeks to introduce up to 12 major public art projects across the town centre over the coming months.

The creative strategy directly follows public consultations held by the council in July, where residents, businesses, and young people gathered to address rising concerns over unauthorised graffiti and tagging. By establishing designated, structured spaces for street art, the initiative aims to curb anti-social vandalism on public and private property while simultaneously celebrating street art as a valid, valuable creative outlet.

A Safe Space to Learn and Build Pride

Workshop leader and artist Tom Sturgess highlighted how essential structured guidance is for budding creatives. He noted that many street artists discover their passion at a young age, and providing them with proper spaces and expert mentorship can transform that interest into lasting artistic skill and civic pride.

The program is currently providing free, four-week courses specifically tailored for teenagers aged 13 to 18. Local youth who want to learn professional mural techniques, build creative confidence, and leave a positive mark on their community can find out more and register their interest for upcoming slots via the official Frome Town Council Project Page.

Mister flourished until one day at school a cruel child noticed that his expression never changed and he wasn't blessed with pupils like everyone else. Forever ridiculed for his blank face, Mister ran away from home to a poor life on the streets where he learnt the ancient art of defacing public buildings.
